Get the most out of your Beaver Creek ski vacation by being prepared. Below are tips to beat the elements:
- Bring and wear adequate clothing since the weather can change quickly. When the sun sets, temperatures drop quickly.
- Dress in layers. This way you can adjust to varying temperatures, altitude levels and stay dry.
- Wear a hat! You’ll stay warm and protect your body from the elements. Eye protection is necessary at this elevation as well.
- Protect your lips! Wear lip balm with sunscreen and apply ofen. Hydrate from the inside out
High altitude, like at Beaver Creek Ski Resort, can have a surprisingly powerful effect. Beaver Creek Resort is at 8100 feet above sea level and the mountain summit is 11,440ft. Below are some precautions can help you adapt:
- There is less oxygen and less humidity in the mountain air. If you do not live at a high elevation, take it slowly at first. With less oxygen available at high altitudes you may tire more quickly. Symptoms of altitude sickness, which may requre medical attention, include vomiting, insomnia, headache, and a fast heartbeat.
- Drink plenty of water. High, dry air accelerates dehydration. Exercise compounds this.
- Don’t forget your sunglasses and sunscreen! At around 10,000 ft. the effects of the sun can be 50% greater than at sea level.
