Snowshoeing has become one of the fastest-growing sports – perhaps because it’s so easy to get started! With no instruction, beginners can experience the serenity of the mountains, take in breathtaking, backcountry scenery, and get a great workout. Rentals and trail maps are available at most ski shops.

Race in the Beaver Creek Snowshoe Series

Each of the four snowshoe races features the East West 5K Quest, a 10K Competitive Run, Kids K, and the Dash for Cash. Races are followed by a celebration on the B.C. Village Plaza with food, drink, awards and the always entertaining prize raffle open to all participants.

Cross-Country (Nordic) Skiing at McCoy Park

Like snowshoeing, cross-country or Nordic skiing is another popular winter activity. Getting started is easy; the sport uses natural movements, does not require special skills and offers a short learning curve. Vacation time is spent on the trails rather than in lessons.

The Beaver Creek Nordic Sports Center offers a rental shop and is an official center for Fischer cross-country skis, Red Feather snowshoes and The Tele Tech Center. Located at the bottom of Chair 12 in the Strawberry Park Condo building next to the Beaver Creel Medical Center, the Nordic Center is open daily from 9-4pm through April. Private and group lessons are available daily, as are group snowshoe tours.
